Fresh waters
Salmon
  • In Campbell Creek, only unbaited artificial lures may be used for the remainder of the year. Also, rainbow trout may not be retained in Campbell Creek.
  • Coho fishing in Campbell Creek remains fair. Try a small orange or bright red corkies for the elusive Campbell Creek coho.
  • The coho fishery on Ship Creek is good again this week and the place to go in Anchorage.
  • Bird Creek is still the hot spot for pink salmon and anglers continue to sort through the pinks to get to the coho.
  • The fishing in streams at the head of Turnagain Arm has been affected by recent high water due to heavy rains. Fishing will improve when the waters start to recede and clear up.
  • Ingram Creek is also producing good pink salmon action.
  • Medium-size spinners and spoons, such as Vibrax and Pixies, work well on both coho and pink salmon. Try a variety of colors; pink, orange, chartreuse, and blue are all popular among spin anglers.
  • Fly-fishers use a variety of flashy streamers to catch coho and pink salmon. Weighted Egg-sucking Leeches in black or purple work well, as do Flash Flies; Everglos in chartreuse, pink, or orange; and even beads. Nos. 2-4 are popular hook sizes.
Rainbow Trout, Dolly Varden, Arctic Grayling
  • Campbell and Chester creeks will not be stocked this summer and will be catch-and-release for rainbow trout all year. Only unbaited artificial lures may be used.
  • Rainbow trout and Dolly Varden fishing has been good on local streams.
Lake Fishing
  • To learn which lakes have been recently stocked with trout and landlocked salmon, visit the Division of Sport Fish stocking Web pages.
  • Anchorage area lakes have been stocked and fishing should be good.
  • Rainbow trout stocked last year are still present in local lakes. Flies, bait and spinners all work well. Try fishing the evening hatches.
  • Remote stocked lakes: Symphony Lake has been serving up good catches of Arctic grayling; try Rabbit Lake for rainbow trout.
Northern Pike
  • Sand Lake has quite a few small pike that will test the skill of any bow hunters. Remember that your arrow has to be attached to your bow, and good hunting.
  • Pike fishing in Lower Fire Lake and Sand Lake has been slow lately.
